Hi guys,
Spring is in the air here in the UK and its that time of year that every once in a while (and yes I mean once in a while) the sun will cast its yellowy rays upon the British Isle and the brits will decend upon the shores & parks of England to bask in its sunny glow.
So I decided yesterday, on Sun-day, to spend the day in London town and go down to the south Bank and see what the tourists get up to when it aint raining cats and doggies.
The South bank, which for those who don’t know, is a long pedestrianised path situated south of the river Thames and stretchs 2 miles. It overlooks some of the traditional London landmarks and boasts plenty of tourist attractions including the Millenium Wheel.
But I’m not here to talk about the attractions on the South Bank, on the contrary, I want to talk about something more interesting like the street performers who were showing their stuff at the bank.
For those who are not familiar street performers come in all shapes and sizes, and colours for that matter. They flock where the tourists go and try and dazzle their audience with light entertainment which can include anything from circus performance, street dancing, bongo playing to just plain standing still.
Yes, you heard me right, just standing still, which is kinda odd but there you go.
but what makes these breed of entertainers stand out is not necessarily their performance but how they look. These guys do wear crazy attire and spray paint themselves from head to toe including their outfit. And then if they aren’t dancing to a tune or whistling to attract attention they will stand still forever or until some tourist will eventually drop some lose change into their hat, or a tin pot or whatever strange object they might have with them at the time and thank him or her for it via a snazzy move.
I was surprised and at the same time saddened to see that there were about 2 dozen or more of these performers all competing with one another and vying for an audience attention in the hope of collecting their share of the money and supposedly eke out a living which I presume is what most of them do.
What intrigued me most was that even though they were competing with each other they all seemed to play by the rules and followed a sort of code of honour which allowed them to perform, smile, jest, joke and sometimes even collaborate with each other to a degree of professionalism.
Yes, although the competition there was a sense of camardarie amongst them, hey we’re all in the same boat so lets make the most of it.
some of the artists stood still for what seemed like ages and I mean ages. One guy dressed as a clowned policeman in a tutu stood for about 20 minutes straight without a soul approaching or giving him money. But did he give up and say ‘fuck this I’m going home’? No.
He stuck with it!
The performers attention to detail with the costumes they wore and the patience and perseverence they exuded just went to show that no matter how tough or competitive it is out there, come rain or shine, if you are professional in your approach and patient in your task then and here comes the cliched quote ‘good things come to those who wait!‘ (and i’m not telling you from what tv ad that line came from)
So all you bloggers out there who feel restless and fidgety when it comes to making money online - take heed.
Learn from these street performers, be patient and persevere.
Stickability is the key here, if you persevere and embrace the good days with the bad days then great stuff will surely happen.
Damn! If these artists can stand for ages and maintain their focus and composition without complaining who are we to complain sitting in our comfy chairs in front of our computer screens, working away within the confinment and safety of our four walls.
So quit complaining and keep blogging - but if you still want to complain make sure its something worth writing about
Remember what Harrison Ford said when he’d got into acting, that there were so many people that would come and go and stop and start, he knew that his secret to success would be to outlast them all. If he just hung out long enough he’d eventually be successful and he was and he still is, well maybe after Indiana Jones 4.
So stick with it guys.
To your blogging success.
Happy Monday
Che Guy
