Hi guys,oscars

As you read this post the Oscars will have been dished out to the worthy of Hollywood and once more we’ll be wondering why this film got that award or that actor got this award when all along it should have been given to you know who.
Well, as the great script writer William Goldman says “In Hollywood, nobody knows anything” except the one golden rule that  if you follow it and do it well you can make your film a success and I guess it also holds true with blogging.  Want to know what it is? Then read on…

If you’ve ever seen the film ‘Field of dreams’ then you’re probably familiar with the line ‘if you build it, they will come.’ In the film Ray Kinsella portrayed by the actor Kevin Costner is a novice farmer (blogger) who becomes convinced by a mysterious voice that he is supposed to contruct a baseball diamond in his corn field (a blog). The film’s underlying themes are the fulfillment of dreams, and how people can overcome any regrets they may have about the life choices they make.
Ray Kinsella does indeed build his field and towards the end of the film, as the camera pans up towards the horizon as a long line of cars (traffic) begin approaching the baseball field.

What a great ending to a Hollywood film, and yes, Hollywood films are there to reassure us  that life is great and if we do follow our dreams they certainly can come true.

And as I’m certain that  ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ will snap up a few of the golden statuetes for being one of the only feel good films to be nominated this year, I ponder about the memorable quote from the film ‘Field of dreams’ ‘If you build it, they will come’ if it does actually hold true with blogging too.

In a simple word NO!

I have learnt in my experience as a film maker that getting a film made, just like a blog, is not difficult. Getting a film seen and connected with an audience, now that’s hard.
So the question lies in how do you get a film (blog) connected with an audience?

Simple. You market it properly.

In film terms they call it P & A which stands for prints and advertising. The film, before its release, is copied into thousands of prints which is distributed all over the world prior to its opening night.  But since you can’t print your blog you most definitely can advertise it and market it the right way.

So marketing is the main ingredient for getting your film or blog exposed to the masses and creating good content is also key to getting your audience connected with it.

I have to admit, I haven’t been marketing my blog as much as I promised I would. And I do deserve a slap on the wrist or perhaps even a kick up the backside in order to get me into the groove once more.   So,  I’d like to talk to you about a brilliant  E-book I came across recently titled ‘Blog your wage’ which was written by a chap by the name of Tony shepherd. In the book he describes ways of marketing your blog efficiently and gives invaluable tips on what worked for him and what didn’t.

I know that most of you out there will probably know this stuff already but you never know what other golden nuggets of information you may chance upon through the read, some which I’m certainly taking on board which I didn’t know about before.

So, get marketing my compadres and lets get our P & A out there to the blogosphere and I’ll speak to you soon.
