Hi guys,

Easter is just round the corner and the chocolate egg sales are in full swing. And as we get ready to gorge ourselves silly with lots of cream eggs there will be those of us who who will be stuffing ourselves with something other than Chocolaty eggs, something much drier and tasteless to the palate, something called Matzos. That’s right, for all the Jewish contingency out there the next seven days we will be celebrating the festival which is called Passover.

Passover for those who are not in the know is when Jewish families gather for a meal, normally around the month of April, and recount the days of being slaves to the Pharaoh in Egypt some 3500 years ago. It tells the story of how Moses the dude, was sent on a mission by God (a bit like the Blues Brothers but on a bigger scale) to free the Jews from the tyranny of the Egyptians and lead them on a detour through the red sea, Via the desert, stopping at Mount Sinai for a date with destiny and continue onto the promised land.

But like any good story things never turn out according to plan. At Mount Sinai just as the Jews were about to receive the word of God they turned back on God and Moses and started whinging and complaining about this that and the other. Some if not most were so fed up with being dragged along the desert heat on their liberation tour that they were willing to give up and go back from whence they came.

Even though they tasted freedom for the first time in their lives they wanted to reclaim their slavery back in Egypt.
So the question goes Was life in the desert worse than slavery in Egypt?

Now the whole point of Passover is not just to remind ourselves of our slavery to the Egyptians thousands of years ago but it goes a little deeper to remind each and everyone of us that even now, in modern times, we each have our own Egypt to deal with.

The Egypt that I’m referring to is our EGO.

Experiencing change in life like the Jews did back then puts us on a path which is bound to be frought with challenges, difficulties and adversities.

Being slaves to our own inhibitions, fears, habits, cynicism and prejudices, what Passover considers to be these self appointed Pahraohs, are layers of ego that prevent us from expressing our true inner being.

We need to learn how to leave our Egypt behind.

So when Moses commanded Pharaoh by saying ‘Let my people go!’ What he really meant was ‘Let their EGOS go!’.

This time of year is a reminder for everyone, not just the Jews that we must struggle to truly be free.

I sum it up like this: We are slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt = we are slaves to our ego, stuck in our limitations.

So to round things up I’d just like to finish with one other thing:

The word Passover in Hebrew when split in two means ‘the mouth speaks.’ The month of April is connected to the quality of speech it is also considered the first month of the year, the sign of Aries the Ram.
By speaking we bring new ideas into reality. From potential to actuality.
the Ram likes to jumps and flit and leap about. It is a symbol of action and new beginnings.
So in order to evolve it’s not only necessary to speak your thoughts of change for the coming future but to put them into action as well.

So don’t do what the Jews did thousands of years ago, learn from their mistake and persevere in the face of adversity and struggle.che-guyvara-small7
